Be Near Family 

Family is something but most people who live over 100 years old all share in common. When you live near your family you have a greater sense of purpose and belonging. The precious moments that you get to spend with your loved ones is a valuable form of social interaction. 

So, before you consider moving far away from your family, think about whether it might affect your long-term happiness. 

Eat Healthy Foods 

There’s nothing wrong with indulging once in a while, however, when you eat a mostly helpful diet full of nutritious foods packed full of vitamins, you’re doing your body a huge favor. If you can manage to maintain a diet that is rich in all the right nutrients, then you won’t just find yourself looking great, but you’ll feel better too. 

Get Moving 

One of the secrets to longevity is moving as much as possible. That doesn’t mean you have to go to the gym for two hours a day, however, you should try to walk as much as possible. Whether it’s walking to work, or taking the stairs to your office, get into the habit of light and moderate movement throughout the entire day. A stationary lifestyle is one of the leading factors of premature aging. 

Avoid the Sun 

The sun can be a wonderful thing— in doses. It’s important that you wear proper protection whenever you’re under the sun’s potentially harmful rays. That means everything from sunscreen, wide-brimmed hats to sunglasses. The sun can be extremely dangerous, and can even lead to cancer, so be careful about protecting yourself from it if you want to live a longer life. 

Sleep

Sleep is more than just a relaxing pastime that we enjoy when we’re not working. Sleep is a critical part of keeping our bodies functioning. When you fail to give yourself enough sleep, then your body can’t regenerate itself at night. It’s recommended that you get at least eight hours of sleep a night, and minimally six. 

The older you get the more erratic your sleeping patterns become. So, the more that you can encourage a good night’s sleep, like avoiding alcohol before bed, and sleeping in a dark and quiet room, the more that your body will thank you for it.
